Tim White Remodeling  - Roof Replacement - Replacement of An Existing Roof

As is the case with all high-quality construction, a roof replacement project with Tim White Remodeling is performed in phases to allow for monitoring and inspections before, during, and after each phase.  These phases are seamless and the completion of one, followed by the beginning of another, generally goes unnoticed by our customers.  Following is an overview of our phased approach at Tim White Remodeling.

Phase I – Estimating

Step One - Analysis of Existing Conditions

One of our highly trained Roofing Consultants will conduct a comprehensive inspection of your
roof and surrounding areas to determine the scope of work necessary, and any existing or
potential problems. During our inspection, and to assist in our analysis, our consultant will provide the facts we will use in recommending the appropriate scope of work – usually “no work currently necessary”, “roof repairs”, or “full replacement”.

Step Two – Customer Education and Consultation

During this step we will provide you with all the facts and information gained by our inspection and analysis. We will explain what it all means and answer all your questions. In addition, we will listen to your concerns, ideas and objectives, and assist you in any manner necessary to help you make the best decisions regarding the scope of work and materials for your project.

Phase II - Contract

The Contract Phase is a result of, and will reflect, your decisions. Every contract from Tim White Remodeling is thorough, customer-friendly, and specific to your project. A contract with Tim White Remodeling specifies the scope of work for your project, and our obligations and responsibilities to you. The following items are included in every contract.

1. Insurance – Specifies that your project will be covered by:
   Worker’s Compensation Insurance
   Liability Insurance (coverage while work is in progress)
2. Codes – Specifies all work will be performed according to local building codes
3. Materials – A specific listing of all field, ridge, valley and flashing materials
4. Ventilation – The components necessary for a balanced ventilation system
5. Clean-up – Specifies your property will be kept clean during and after installation
6. Price – All taxes are included in the contract price
7. Warranty – Your contract will become a Warranty document

Phase III – Installation

The high technical quality and professionalism of our installations has satisfied over 10,000 customers and produced remarkable growth.  The primary reasons for our successful installations are:

1. Staff Supervision – In addition to a job site foreman, we employ staff supervisors who oversee all jobs. Our supervisors have no responsibility other than making sure that our crews perform according to our installation and behavioral standards.
2. Standards – We have a firm set of technical and behavioral standards to which we hold our installation personnel. In addition to requiring proper installation techniques, we do not allow such offensive behaviors as loud music, inappropriate language or lunchtime trash at our job sites. We respect you and your home. Our organization is built on a high level of customer service and the resulting referrals to new customers.

Step One – Staging and Setup

Our scheduling supervisor will notify you regarding the delivery date of materials to your home.  Prior to the beginning of work, the supervisor responsible for overseeing your installation will brief the job site foreman regarding all pertinent information specific to your job.

Step Two – Preparation and Removal of Existing Materials

Special precautions will be taken to insure that the exterior of your home is protected from debris associated with the removal of your existing roof. This protection is provided by the use of tarps, plywood screening, and other materials when necessary.
The existing roofing materials will be removed and placed in a vehicle for transport – we do not use dumpsters unless absolutely necessary. By using our own trucks and trailers for hauling debris, we can eliminate the damage to your driveway often caused by dumpsters and remove the trash vehicle each night.

Step Three – New Material Installation

1. The existing roof sheathing will be inspected. All damaged or rotted sheathing will be replaced prior to the installation of the new roofing materials.
2. A layer of high-quality roofing felt will be installed to serve as an underlayment for the shingles and an additional moisture barrier.
3. F-8  Drip Edge Flashing will be installed on all Gutter lines.
4. Valley flashings that are fabricated with an inverted V-shaped standing diverter will be installed in all valleys. All of our standard flashings contain a baked-on enamel finish to prevent rust and corrosion. These flashings typically outlast the other roofing materials.
5. The field materials (shingles) will be installed using the proper fasteners and according to the manufacturers specifications and local building codes.
6. Step-Flashings will be installed on all adjoining walls and interlaced with the new roof shingles.
7. A kick-out flashing will be installed at the bottom of every step-flashing “run” to insure that water is diverted to the outside of siding materials below the run.
8. Roof and soffit vents will be installed to provide an adequate and balanced ventilation system. The quantity and placement of vents are determined by our Analysis of Existing Conditions conducted during Phase I. An adequate ventilation system is necessary to insure the elimination of moisture in the attic. Excess moisture may lead to interior mold/mildew and premature failure of the roofing materials. This may, in turn, void the manufacturer's material warranty.
9. New step-flashings will be installed around chimneys and skylights, and re-caulked.
10. New plumbing vent flashings and new furnace flue flashings will be installed, interlaced with the new roof shingles, and caulked.
11. New ridge materials, matching the field shingles, will be installed according to the manufacturer’s specifications. The ridge shingles will be installed in a straight line and will provide the finishing touch to the installation - both technically and aesthetically.

Step Four – Clean-Up

Clean-up around your home is a very critical step in our Installation phase. Your property will be inspected to insure that all debris is removed.  A special magnet with wheels will be used to remove all loose nails.

Phase IV – Follow-Up

Step One – Quality Control

After completion, a Quality Control Inspection will be conducted to insure that our installation crew performed the installation according to our technical standards, the manufacturer’s specifications and local building codes.
